The hydrogeology of an area is controlled by some factors such as geology, structures, and climate of the area. This is because the geologic formations underlying the area and the structures determine the types of aquifers to be developed there and the means of recharging them while the climate determines the amount and rate of recharging of the aquifer. Groundwater recharge is the process by which aquifers are replenished with water from the surface. This is influenced by many factors such as the soil type, plant cover, slope, rainfall intensity, and the presence and depth of confining layers and aquifers. Most of the groundwater recharged in the study area occurs during the wet season when precipitation is highest.
We carry out Borehole drilling and groundwater studies; Borehole drilling can be carried out in two geological terrains, namely sedimentary and basement complex. Drilling methodology or procedures are not the same for both terrains. A basement complex environment may not necessarily need the construction of a mud pit to facilitate drilling. Most often drilling chemicals and additives may not be needed considering the nature of the geological materials or formations obtainable on site.
However, predrilling tests are always carried out to determine the aquifer property, drilling feasibility and target depths.
Samples are obtained in the process of drilling to assist the geologist do a proper well design for the best productivity of the borehole. Gravel packing is also inserted into the hole to help filter and avoid hole carving.
Flushing and backwashing are also carried out to ensure thorough cleaning to and fro of the well to prevent obstruction during pump installation.
The well development involves installation of pumping machines and pump testing.
